Reports on Monday indicated that the Arizona Cardinals wanted to interview Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy for a second time.

Not so fast.

It appears the Cardinals will not get a second chance to talk with McCoy.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Tuesday the San Diego Chargers, who spoke with McCoy for the first time the previous day, are about to finalize a deal with the coach.

McCoy was the only known interview for the Cardinals this week.

As the Cardinals' coaching search enters week three, the team has talked with McCoy, defensive coordinator Ray Horton, Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden and unofficially, Todd Haley, whom the Pittsburgh Steelers said the Cardinals were interviewing.

Gruden, Haley and Horton are all still on the market for a head coaching job.

isn't a big name & having a 1st time HC along with 1st time coordinators doesn't jump at you & scream success. I am glad Bidwill & Keim are wanting to see who else would be there with Horton!

McCoy might just be a great OC.
With a coach you never know what you get. AZ was excited with Green and Ryan (No Playoffs) and not so much with Tobin and Whisenhunt (Playoffs). Cardinals might of lost the "popular off-season hire", but they still might hire the better head coach. Plus I would rather have a coach who will take a harder situation then one relying on the current roster.

    Horton
Trust me nobody would be disappointed with the promotion of Ray Horton, we were just excited about the possibility of having both. HaHaHa Let's get Horton in & signed so he can focus on his staff now.

This is ridiculous, how many coaches we gonna let slip by?!

    Whiz
I just can't believe that they let Whiz go without having someone else locked up. I like Horton and would hate to lose him but just not sure if he is ready for the HC job. We need an offensive minded head coach and it's not looking good for the Cardinals franchise if they botched this one up.

    Hard job to fill
The way things are going, they may have to take Whisenhunt back!

    And then there were...
With Reid (good match to get something out of Kolb) and McCoy (decent to good QB developer) off the market, in my lone opinion Bruce Arians is the last decent HC candidate out there for this franchise and it's current situation. You want to bring in a reputable HC to retain Horton who now looks not to go anywhere, to have a better focus on the offense. Gruden, Cowher and Billick are only returning to coaching in an 'ideal' situation and AZ isn't it. Haley I'm not sold on, and he's asking too much from what I read. Jay Gruden, distant possibility but has a nice resource in his brother.
