It was reported Thursday that the Arizona Cardinals had asked the Pittsburgh Steelers for permission to interview offensive coordinator Todd Haley.

Haley, who held the same title in Arizona from 2007-2008 before leaving to be the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, is a candidate for the Arizona vacancy.

ESPN NFL analyst Ron Jaworksi, as a guest of Arizona Sports 620's Burns and Gambo, thinks Haley would be a good choice, even after struggling with the Chiefs.

"Clearly, I think coaches, as head coaches the first time, they learn an awful lot," Jaworski said. "You can be overwhelmed by it, and I personally believe guys are much better the second time around.

"They know the pitfalls of being the guy in charge."

Haley compiled a 19-26 record in less than three full seasons with the Chiefs, guiding them to the postsesaon in 2010 before struggling the next year. He was fired 13 games into the 2011 campaign, and has spent just one season in Pittsburgh.

"Todd Haley is a very good football coach," Jaworski said, noting that he did struggle in Kansas City. "I will guarantee you this: he will be better prepared to take his next job."

    I don't hate the guy but I don't like the guy for what we need right now. I like Horton. The players love him, the defense is great (look at how many minutes they log every game and still give up few points until they wore out at the end of the year)and he's very impressive and intense when I see him being interviewed. His influence will spread to the whole team and he'll hire his good friend Norv Turner to run the offense. The Cards will be golden. Hiring Todd Haley will feel like an old Cardinal ownership move.

    was run out of town a bit prematurely in KC. The Chiefs have been worse off ever since. Aongst the names tied to the Cards so far, I'd prefer Horton, but would be satisfied with Haley. Either way, I'd like to see Norv needs to come in as the OC.

    I like Horton, but that doesn't solve our biggest problem....offense. Hiring a good OC is going to be harder than anyone thinks...because unless Horton has an OC in his pocket, he will have to convince someone to come in under him....with no QB....no oline...cheap owners. Might as well start calling the college ranks. Horton is a fan fav right now...but if we go 0-6 because of lack of scoring...it's a unfair to Horton. Stop delaying the choice, he needs to be on the phone dialing for an OC.

    Unlikely you'd see Turner under Haley, since Turner would want to run his system and not Haley's, but might be a good shot under Horton. And @theuglytruth: Cheap owners? C'mon, pay more attention and get into this decade. This team has a bunch of big contracts and is paying a coach to sit at home if he doesn't get a job. The "cheap" label is over and has been for several years now.

    Seriously dude, you need a wakeup call. Anyway, I feel a little conflicted here. We all know Haley's off style worked with Warner under center, but can it work with Kolb? Before a Kolb vs. (insert name here) QB debate starts, I want to make it clear that i feel very comfortable with Kolb taking the ball next year. The offensive line clearly improved and will be even sturdier next season. That being said, Haley as offensive coordinator might just fit Horton's ideology of his command masters at their respective crafts.

    This may also provide the balance on both sides of the football because both of these men are headstrong. In a perfect world, Haley would be the better option at HC considering he has been to the circus and can handle it, but i feel if Horton gets passed up; he will be hired elsewhere. What to do, what to do...

    He's shown that without Kurt Warner (who was strong enough to battle with him and shrub it off) he does not do well. Horton would surely be gone to another team as HC and Cardinals put all their eggs in one basket and get burned. Oh wait, that sounds kinda familiar.

    Haley sucks! He failed in KC and failed with the Steelers, any more time to make your decision? The only reason why he was okay in Arizona was Kurt Warner. Also, don't get that guy from Denver he's another Todd Haley. Manning is really the OC not McCoy. Get Horton as HC and get Norv Turner as OC! Get a QB first round and get a lineman in the second. And the problem is solved.
