Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton is in the midst of the interview process to become a head coach somewhere.

Thought to be a likely candidate to replace Ken Whisenhunt in Arizona, Horton has already twice interviewed with Cardinals president Michael Bidwill as well as the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills.

And, as Arizona Sports 620's Kyndra de St. Aubin is reporting, all three interviews went well.

St. Aubin also tweeted Horton has not yet heard from two other prominent teams that are in search of a new head coach.

Horton interviewed for the St. Louis Rams vacancy last season, with the team brass apparently leaving very impressed. While he has been a coordinator for just two seasons, many believe he is ready to take over a team.

Monday, before news of Whisenhunt's dismissal was made public, some Cardinals players expressed hope Horton would not be leaving for a job somewhere else.

    Ray Horton
To Team President Michael Bidwill: Hire the guy!!! He's the one!!! He is well polished, loyal, and intelligent. No need to hire Reid who has had bad seasons in Philly for the last three years!

    I agree chargecards
Im impressed Bidwill is looking at all of his options. But, I figure if he cant land Reid as a HC and pay Horton more money and make him Assistant HC, he will hire Horton as HC and hire a good OC.

    More Ray Horton
Andy Reid would be a huge mistake. He has had his day. Ray's day is coming. He has the confidence of the team, the skill and is the right guy for this slot. Delaying or running down a rabbit trail with Andy Reid should be avoided. If Kansas City realizes how valuable Ray is and extends an unrefusable offer-and we lose this opportunity as a result-it will be hard to bring any enthusiasm for this team. We need Ray to be signed now.

    Why more candidates?
If Horton is the guy, offer him a job. Why keep looking? I think if the cardinals were interested in Horton, they wouldn't be looking under rocks for people like Todd Haley. That would be terrible for the Cards. Give Horton the job, hire a great OC and get a quarterback who can find a receiver in red and white.
