Most of Tuesday afternoon was spent reading reports about Andy Reid's likelihood of landing in the desert.

The deposed Philadelphia Eagles coach is arguably the highest-profile name on the market right now, and he would seem like a great fit for the Cardinals.

Career winning record? Check.

Ability to put together a good coaching staff? Check.

Name recognition for fans? Check.

Ability to coach quarterbacks? Not only a check, but maybe the biggest selling point for a Reid/Cardinals marriage.

However, as the day wore on reports went from Reid being almost certain to join the Cardinals to simply setting up an interview later in the week, and then word leaked out the coach was set to interview with the Kansas City Chiefs about their job opening before the Cards get a chance to talk with him.

Uh oh?

A Yahoo! Sports NFL insider, Cole's suggestion is as interesting as it is disturbing. Could Reid be playing the Cardinals in an effort to get a better deal somewhere else? Maybe he has little interest in the Cardinals or his former QB Kevin Kolb, and would rather start fresh with the team that currently holds the top pick in the 2013 draft.

It would not be the first time the Cardinals were used as leverage for someone to head to Kansas City, as Vonnie Holliday's flirtation with Arizona in 2003 ultimately led to him getting a big offer from the Chiefs.

In a twist of irony, though, Holliday ended up with the Cardinals after all, albeit quite a few years later.

At any rate, until Reid signs on the dotted line for a different team Cole's report -- like everyone else's before him -- is merely speculation.

signed with KC last offseason and if the Cardinals aren't as brain dead as I think they are, they should have been all over him. Were they behind the scenes and it got ignored because all the news coverage was geared towards Manning? Maybe they've been used 3 times by people who signed with KC?

This is how interviews go. Andy Reid is suddenly not allowed to interview with other teams? But I also think it's a mistake to hire a coach before you hire a GM. Let a new GM take part in the selection process. And please don't let it be Steve Kleim. The Cardinals need someone who hasn't been with the organization for the last 20 years.

    Really?
Is this stuff written by a proctologist? Of course he will interview at other places. It's called Employment 101! If the Cards want him, then they should make him an offer. That's called Recruitment 101! To "create" controversy is highly irresponsible and frankly, demonstrates a real lack of judgment, common sense, and integrity. Who knows, maybe these are acceptable characteristics of a blogger!

Is that a question? Look no further than Kolb....a very large amount of people thought Kolb was sold based on Reids sell job. So yeah, he could very well be using a tactic.

    Maybe not!
Could it be that he is using KC? Ever think that he is trying to up his pay on a contract with the Cards??

KC has a better to team to coach than AZ. Its true KC has more weapons on offense. They're depth is deeper at RB, TE, and WR. Their defense has talent but just needs a good DC. I think KC is a better fit for Reid. Like I said, they're deeper at RB, TE, and WR. All they're missing is a QB. Reid got rid of Kolb bcuz he wasnt good enough.

    Andy Reid
Do people really think that Reid is going to coach here? Andy Reid is a 4-5 mil coach. Whiz was making what 1.5? I don't know, but Andy Reid is too expensive for the Bidwells to hire. I think DC Horton is a decent pick.

I hate it when fans chime in with a 20 year old comment that doesn't apply anymore about the Cardinals not spending money. OK, just follow along here. There are 3 teams in the NFL who were over the spending cap, the Cards were one of them. We've re-signed Fitz, Campbell and about a dozen other players whe we needed to re-sign. So please, for the love of God, knock off that the Cards aren't willing to pay out what they need to pay out.

    Let Him Go
Reid is a washed up, old man. I have no idea why the Cards are even interested in this guy. We have a lousy team with few players and you think this guy is going to fix it? Get real! We need a younger coach that can draft and plug players into all of the holes. Time has passed Reid up and it's time to let him go.
