CBS NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports that three teams are set to interview defensive coordinator Ray Horton to fill their head coaching vacancy (AP File Photo).
The end of the regular season is less than a day old, and already Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton has become one of the league's hottest commodities.

The interest makes plenty of sense, after all, Arizona's defense under Horton in 2012 was near the top of the league in passing defense and turnovers forced.

Seven NFL teams on "Black Monday" fired their respective head coaches, including the Arizona Cardinals, and Horton's name has been linked to several of them.

Monday night, CBS NFL Insider Jason La Canfora tweeted this about Horton's potential suitors:

The Bills have a connection to Horton, in that Director of Pro Personnel Doug Whaley spent considerable time with him in Pittsburgh. While the Browns have no direct ties to Arizona's defensive coordinator, Horton proved he can help shut down AFC North offenses as an assistant defensive coordinator to Dick LeBeau with the Steelers.

He also has NFL experience in the division, as he spent six seasons as a cornerback with the Cincinnati Bengals (1983-1988).

    Then he can
bring in a offensive cooridinator of his own choice. As far as rebuilding the offense is concerned, being he is a defensive minded coach, he knows what attention & TLC this offense needs (from his defensive prespective on the outside looking in) 2 b a contender. I think Bidwill should pull the trigger. Horton's already established & liked. His success will attract FA's. Reid (just like Whiz) botched his QB situation in PHI & P.Manning is responsible for Denvers success, not their OC. The only other guys I wouldnt mind losing Horton for are Gruden or Dungy. Anyone else would b a downgrade.

Dungy isn't going to coach again, anywhere. Gruden won't come here. How you can say anyone else but Horton is a downgrade is laughable at best. Reid shares an agent with Keim. If Keim becomes GM, Reid's your coach.

I totally agree .... Bob LaMonte has a handle on both Reid and Keim. As I said earlier it's kind of funny that Bidwell stated in his press conference that they havn't gave up on Kolb yet.

    How can I say
anyone else is other than Horton is a downgrade? I dont think Reid is mentally prepared to coach right now. He butched his Defensive Cooridinator positions over the last 2 years (which ours is secured). He butched his QB situation just like Whiz over the last 3 years. He butched his O Line. Yes he's a good QB coach, but, he's not that good of a HC. 9 playoff appearances and 1 SB appearance doesnt mean anything to me. All that says is that he couldnt finish the job (REASON WHY PHI FIRED HIM). We have a good thing going with Horton and we should see where that takes us.

He also seemed almost giddy when saying they were going to interview Reid. I couldn't tell if it was just him trying to get the fan base excited or if he is genuinely that excited though.

You dont have to agree with me. If Reid comes in, we lose Horton, our defense declines, and Reid butchers the Offense like he did in PHI, I'll be the first one to tell you the Cards shouldnt have hired him.

    The right choice
Andy Reid has baggage,Gruden is not coming here. The right choice is bring in Norv Turner as OC. Keep Ray Horton as DC with an pay increase. Hire Lovie Smith as HC. Bring in a GM to be the person running the show. The Cardinals have to be rebuilt on the offensive side of the football 2 to 3year project. May have to let Fitz and some others go to accelerate that timetable. It wont be overnight.

No offense to you, but your 'calls' haven't always been right. I need only Harkon back to the Skelton campaign you ran last year. The facts are, as promising as Horton maybe, there are many experts out there that think he isn't ready. Just because another team may take a risk on him doesn't mean it's the right choice. I really think though whoever we bring in will have success. Whiz would have too had he stayed. Our team is just too talented.
