Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton figures to be a fairly hot commodity with regards to head coaching jobs this offseason.

Horton, who interviewed for the St. Louis Rams opening last offseason before the team hired Jeff Fisher, is credited for transforming Arizona's defense from one of the worst units in the league to one of the best.

So it stands to reason at least a few teams with openings will take a look at Horton.

A guest of Arizona Sports 620's Doug and Wolf Thursday, Horton said an interview like the one he had with the Rams is valuable for for both sides.

listen Listen: Ray Horton, AZ Cardinals' Defensive Coordinator
To what does he contribute this season's stellar defensive perfomance? What does he really think of Patrick Peterson? How is he preparing for the Bears?
"I think both sides learn something," he said, noting how you learn about the team you're interviewing with while they learn about your philosophies. "I think, probably, it's a win-win for everybody involved.

"They get a little exposure, I get a little exposure, so I think both sides probably should ask poignant questions."

    Its time
Offer him the HC Positition of the Arizona Cardinals. Get him a new GM and allow him and that new GM to bring in a whole new Offensive Coaching Staff.

    Here's why...
...why I don't think Horton will be so eager to go elsewhere or be so quick to accept a HC position right now. I don't believe he's satisfied with the Cardinals Defense yet. I think he knows they can, and will, get better. I don't think he wants to settle leaving them as the 6-7th best Defense, when he knows he has the players/talent/ability to make them a top 2 Defense. I'm not saying he won't go anywhere else, or that he wouldn't accept a HC promotion--if the deal was right. But I don't think he feels a need to go anywhere just yet.

    Also...
...Horton runs his D from the booth, with a birds eye view of the field. You can't do that as a HC. Not sure how much a change to working from the actual sidelines would affect his ability to call plays or scheme, but it's something to think about.

    and to add...
...more to my point about Horton not being eager to leave. He knows not every defense has the players to run his scheme. He's got a good thing going here, and I'd imagine it would be someone hard for him to just up and leave when he knows he can achieve more than he already has with this guy's.

    I agree
Make Horton the Head Coach. Then bring in Chip Kelly as the O.C. This is a guys who willing to push the limits of a offense and develope a system to fit the QB. College coaches are good at doing that, since they only have their QB'S for a year maybe two in the college ranks. The way the Cardinals go thru QBs it's a natural fit. If Micheal Bidwell wants to go cheap, and the Cards don't want to get rid of Wiz untill middle of next year because of his contract, then get rid of Miller and hire Chip in his place.

    Graves/Whiz
Graves as GM is responsible for Scouting, Drafting, Acquiring Players, and Negotiating contracts. Whiz as HC is responsible for hiring/firing coaches, game-planning, orginizing, evaluating, and putting players in the best position to succeed. Why has Horton done such a great job (w/ the D) and Whiz hasnt (w/ the O)? Its because he's not good at the above (hiring/firing coaches, game-planning, orginizing, evaluating, and putting players in the best position to succeed.) For whatever reason, the bottom line is he cant develop offensive players. Thats it, end of story.

If Horton is a head coach next year...
...I think it would be in AZ. If they do fire Whiz, I think the Cardinals have the upper hand in any offers made to Horton, just because of the defense he's been fostering. The only reasons I think he'd turn down an offer here and go elsewhere is: 1.) If the ownership severly lowballs/insults him. 2.) If he feels loyalty to Whizenhunt.

    Or...
...he may just want to remain as DC. Seriously, his work with this defense will continue to speak for itself, and he'll remain a hot commodity as a HC for as long as he continues to shine here. I feel like he realizes this defense has alot more upside and can do alot better. I think he's happy where's he's at, personally.

    Can't wait
I'll bet Horton would like to move on asap. How long can he keep winning games for such a bad offense before players say no more? Make him HC and get rid of the "nonsense on offense".
