Should the Arizona Cardinals decide to fire head coach Ken Whisenhunt at the conclusion of this season, they'll have to begin a search to replace the only man in history to lead the team to the Super Bowl.

As it turns out, that search could lead to someone who was right beside Whisenhunt during the entire playoff run.

"Todd Haley, Pittsburgh's offensive coordinator, I continue to hear from multiple sources that the Arizona Cardinals are high on him to replace Ken Whisenhunt," CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora said on the network's NFL pregame show Sunday. "You have to remember, the Bidwill family there, they wanted to add him to Whisenhunt's staff a year ago.

"He's very popular there."

Haley spent two years in Arizona as the offensive coordinator, and is credited for helping to turn Kurt Warner's career around and make the team's offense one of the best in the league.

He left Arizona to coach the Kansas City Chiefs following Super Bowl XLIII, where he lasted less than three seasons. Haley led the team to the postseason in 2010, but had a 19-26 record before being fired 13 games into the 2011 season.

And, as LaCanfora said, there were rumors that the Cardinals were interested in bringing Haley back as offensive coordinator before this season, but Whisenhunt ultimately chose to stick with Mike Miller at the position.

    Insider my @&%
Todd Haley failed in KC. He has done nothing of note for the steelers, WITH a solid QB and great WRs. Ray Horton has familiarity and established success with this D personnel. Whiz is an offensive mind and has FAILED as both a talent evaluator and strategist on offense. What does he ad? Haley is the same thing without the head coach demeanor. HIRE RAY HORTON.

    Really?
The team certainly does need a different offensive coordinator/play caller. Bring Haley in for that, if you can, but not as the head coach. Kansas City had it right by letting him go, and he shines as the 2nd man. But don't give him the big chair. "is credited for helping to turn Kurt Warner's career around" - I guess those Super Bowl trips with a win didn't count for much. Really?

Would Rather See Horton as HC, Haley as OC
IF Whiz does not return next year, I would rather see them try to keep Horton and promote him to HC and offer OC to Haley. Haley could be the entire show on offense because Horton certainly wouldn't be trying to tell Haley how to do his job. Unless they somehow could persuade Horton to stay as DC (with Haley as HC) but something tells me Horton's gonna get a head coaching job somewhere next season, if not here. Also, Haley's time in KC as HC wasn't particularly impressive.

what makes any of you think that horton will fare so much better than haley? what inside information do you have that says haley was such a bad head coach in kc. He was handed Cassel to be his franchise QB - I dont even know if he would b an upgrade over what we have here! Do you think he got a fair shot in KC with his fate tied to Matt Cassel? A guy from USC that wasnt even good enough to crack their starting lineup?

    WOW
This is nothing new, they had a chance to bring back Haley this off season & chose to go with Miller. Bad calls all year under Whiz as well as the previous 2 seasons especially offensively. I know the Bidwill's love Haley but I agree, give him OC duties & call it a day!

    And why exactly
would Haley leave the OC job in Pitssburgh to make a lateral move to a worse team?

    No
I don't expect him back unless the Steelers miss the playoffs & then it will be on Haley so he'll "mutually" leave! I think Horton will be the hot commodity a lot like Tomlin was 5-6 years ago!

    Great choice
A guy who failed miserably in Kansas City while being hated by most everyone there, and has since then moved on to Pittsburgh and done very little if anything with an offense that has (at least) double the talent of what he would inherit in Arizona. Whoopty-Freakin' Doo!

    Haley
is a good OC and thats about it. Besides, if Horton is promoted to HC he will bring in whoever he wants to bring in to be OC. If Horton stays in his DC role and Cards replace Whiz, it should not be with Haley. Im down for Haley being OC if Whiz and Horton stay where they are. But for Haley to be HC is the same as Whiz being HC. Both suck at it!
