The Arizona Cardinals officially placed quarterback Kevin Kolb on injured reserved Tuesday, according to a press release issued by the team.

The roster move ends Kolb's once-promising season. After losing the starting job to John Skelton in the preseason, Kolb replaced the injured Skelton in an opening day win over Seattle in which he engineered the game-winning touchdown drive.

Kolb would then start the next five games but was injured in a Week 6 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

"It's upsetting and disappointing with where we started and the way that the season kicked off, to be in this position," Kolb said of the move.

For the season, Kolb completed 109-of-183 passes for 1,169 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions.

He said he hoped all along to play again this season, but at some point "kind of hit a wall with my rehab", which led to an MRI that showed his ribs were not healing fast enough to get back on the field.

In two seasons with Arizona, Kolb was only able to play in 15 of a possible 32 games due to various injuries, and there are thoughts that he may have played his last game as a Cardinal. He hopes that's not the case.

"I feel like we did some really good things," the quarterback said. "I like the way this locker room is, I really do."

Kolb said he knows the team will have to make some adjustments, but he has no thoughts of playing anywhere else next season.

"My focus is being a part of this team for a long time and being the best player that I can be and getting this place back to an elite level," he said. "I'm going to work my tail off to make sure I get there."

In a corresponding roster move, the Cardinals signed offensive lineman Mike Gibson. Gibson played with the Seattle Seahawks from 2009 to 2011 and was with the Philadelphia Eagles in training camp this season before being released.

He was a sixth round pick of the Eagles in 2008.

So easy to kick someone why they are down.
The only thing that we know about K.Kolb is that he is injury prone. With the efforts that he displayed this season he is worth building an offensive line around him and giving him another year. Cut Skelton and get some new backups. With the right guy (A.Reid) running the offensive and calling the plays, this team is playoff bound period.

And No Drew Brees Is Not Available, With A 10 Million Dollar Salary Next Season It's Ovbious Along With Every Other Terrible Personnel Move That This Was Not A Good Deal For Us. We Reached After A Season Of Anderson Hall And Skelton At QB. Time To Reevaluate This Position Like Many Others This Offseason. Speaking Of That Where To Start My Goodness?!?!

I do hope the Cardinals don't try to blame Kolb for their crap show of a season. He had a horrible injury and that's on the lack of an o line.

They should build a line for a QB period. Hopefully, Kolb will agree to restructure his contract so that he will be the starter next year. But his injury proneness is concerning. Bringing in a veteran guy like Alex Smith or Vince Young until they draft the future "Franchise QB" should be considered. I cant believe Whiz fined DD 200K. He is the leader of the defense. Obviously DD didnt like it. His fellow defensive teamates didnt like it. And they gave up on Whiz. The longer Whiz stays, the deeper that cut sever DD's loyalty to the orginization. If Cards lose DD, we lose a Defense.

    We're in a situation
where our stars might start askin for trades if the orginization doesnt show a effort to improve. My concern is the Bidwills will either keep Whiz or replace him with a nobody. I kind of want Jon Gruden. But I know that no high profile GM or HC will come here unless the Bidwills are truly commited to winning at all costs. And we're going to see what the Bidwills do with the team this off-season. I am not going to pay for memorabilia or tickets next year if the Cards dont show me (this offseason) they are commited to winning. And I'll know if they are or arent by Aug 2013.
