The Arizona Cardinals claimed quarterback Brian Hoyer on waivers Monday, according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Hoyer, a fourth-year pro from Michigan State, was waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. In his NFL career with New England and Pittsburgh, Hoyer has completed 27-of-43 passes for 286 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He's played in 13 NFL contests (only one in the last two seasons) and has not started a game in the league.

Hoyer started for more than two seasons at Michigan State, throwing for 6,159 yards and 35 touchdowns.

The Cardinals have had their quarterback issues this season with Kevin Kolb missing the last seven games with a rib injury. Veteran John Skelton and rookie sixth-round draft choice Ryan Lindley have struggled mightily in his absence. The duo has combined for two touchdown passes and 14 interceptions in that span.

To make room for Hoyer, center Rich Ohrnberger was placed on injured reserve. Ohrnberger suffered a knee injury in Sunday's loss to Seattle.

I think they did cut someone, a WR from the practice squad IR. No big names being cut. But at this point in time I would say cut Skelton in the offseason. He hasn't gone anywhere in the past three years.

    really?
Out of all the qb's out there this is whiz's answer? What an fuggin joke! Vince young can't get a phone call? Oh wait thats right, he couldn't possibly fit into whiz's fail proof "system". Can we just get rid of this clown of a head coach already. So now we have to watch a guy named Hoyer trot out there and get on the qb carousel? What A joke, I hope they lose this week 65-0 to lions, then lose 72-0 to bears, oh my, then lose 100-0 to the niners!!!!

    Hoyer
If Hoyer plays and puts together even just a mediocre performance, then Skelton and probably even Lindley are gone next year. Hoyer is playing to be next year's backup to Kolb.

    But
Cards should draft a QB regardless, not with their 1st pick but maybe trade up their 2nd pick to get Barkley if he falls.

Would love to see Hoyer come in and manage the offense, throw for 200/2/1, 90/1 to Fitz, and beat the Lions (who are very beatable if we contain Stafford). Not saying this is going to happen, but Hoyer honestly doesnt need to do much, just show some accuracy, not take a lot of sacks, and find Fitz, and he will be hailed as our savior.

    It's funny
Skelton falls on his face in his contract year. Beanie does the same. I think some scouts need to retire also. If you draft someone who has been hurt all there College career why do they think they would do well in the Pros?

    whos to blame?
it makes me laugh and mad at the same time how everyone is so convinced the QB is the problem for Arizona. we have seen all this QBs have good games. so maybe just maybe if we would spend some money on the o-line and get that problem fixed don't u think are QB situation would get better i think so so before everyone blames are season on them think about how bad the o-lines been giving up sacks left and right heck there the reason kolb got hurt cause they weren't blocking good enough atleast the way i see it the QBs shouldn't be the ones to blame for everything

    Too simple
The problems with the team are many and deep. The team has cancer in a way there are people and fans that are part of the problem. There are tumors in the front office, on the coaching staff, and on the field. The fans need to quit their whining and complaining and support the team on the field. We fans can't do a damned thing about the team winning or losing. The coaches can't do anything about turnovers or penalties. Changes need to be made both with the team and the fans.

Signing players now after the season is almost over is a desperate attempt by the Cards brass to try to save face so fans will think theyre trying to win. Might as well lose the remaining games to get best pick possible to help our team next season. I hope fans dont fall for the Cardinals insincerity and dont show up for their remaining home games.
