The Arizona Cardinals' ugly 7-6 loss to the New York Jets Sunday did nothing to quell the talk that head coach Ken Whisenhunt is on the hot seat.

The Cardinals have lost eight consecutive games and every shred of momentum that was built during a 4-0 start is now a distant memory.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com circulated a report Monday that the Cardinals are having internal discussions about defensive coordinator Ray Horton.

Given that the team's defense has had little to do with the team's eight-game losing streak, the fair inference is that the Cards are considering firing coach Ken Whisenhunt and promoting Horton to interim head coach.

Horton interviewed for St. Louis' head coaching position last season before the Rams settled on Jeff Fisher, and is expected to be a candidate for openings around the league this offseason.

Under Horton's watch this season, the Cardinals defense ranks seventh in the league.

    "Discussions about Horton" could just mean that they want to explore options to incentivize him to stick around next season as DC, like a contract extension with a huge bonus or some kind of coaching guarantee. Or it could just be on his potential candidacy if they were to fire Whiz at the end of the season. Or it actually could be them firing Whiz and promoting him now to avoid losing him. A lot more possibilities than just "he's in trouble" or "Whiz is being fired".

    I will not give my source due to he is a great friend of mine but not a Cardinals fan and he just informed me that the Cardinals are going to offer Three first round draft picks and Kolb to the Carolina Panthers for Cam Newton. This news was definitely not supposed to leaked for a while and I couldn't help myself. This could save our franchise free up money for lineman and save Fitzgeralds career. I would make this trade in a blink of an eye, Cam is not happy and he would fit in great in the Burdcage. I repeat, this is no joke.

    Ill bet money thats not happening too. I wouldnt want Newton. Hes too pouty and imature. He doesnt seem like a leader at all.

    But not for three first round picks. Makes no sense at all. He would be a major major upgrade over what we have.
