The most successful years of Larry Fitzgerald's career came when Ken Whisenhunt was the head coach and Kurt Warner was throwing him the ball.

From 2007-2009, Fitzgerald caught 293 passes for 3,932 yards and 35 touchdowns.

He was dominant, gaining a reputation for being one of the league's best receivers.

Life has not been the same since Warner retired, though, with Fitzgerald's numbers slipping to the point where they are now: 11 games, 55 catches, 627 yards, four touchdowns.

Fitzgerald's struggles -- along with those of the Cardinals themselves -- have led to the Pro Bowler being visibly frustrated on the field, which is something his former quarterback has picked up on.

"I think any great player wants the ball in their hands as much as they possibly can," Warner told Arizona Sports 620's Burns and Gambo Friday. "Yeah, I don't think there's any question Larry is used to having more success."

Warner, who is an analyst for the NFL Network, noted he thinks Fitzgerald cares more about winning than individual stats, so his mediocre start to the season was an afterthought when the Cardinals were 4-0.

listen Listen: Kurt Warner, NFL Network Analyst
Former Cardinals quarterback and current NFL Network analyst Kurt Warner joins the guys to talk football. Does Warner think the 49ers are making a mistake by starting Kaepernick over Alex Smith? How would Smith fit in with the Arizona Cardinals? And would Warner consider being an offensive consultant for the Cards? Find answers to these questions and more with Burns and Gambo.
"I think that's where it gets frustrating," Warner said. "Early in the year maybe he wasn't getting as many touches, but it's like 'it doesn't matter to me, we're finding ways to win and that's all that matters.'

"And then when you get into those stretches where you're not winning and you don't feel like you're able to really impact the game like you want to and like you can, that gets frustrating for any playmaker."

Fitzgerald and the Cardinals will look to both get back on track Sunday in New York against the Jets. It's the first time the teams have met since 2008, where the Cardinals lost 56-35.

Warner threw for 472 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions on the day, while Fitzgerald caught eight passes for 122 yards.

    Fitz is Being Waisted
In the last game Lindley supposedly targeted Fitz 12 times but only completed 3 of them. How does a team that drafted Floyd in first round and with an emerging Andre Roberts not be able to find the open receiver and get Fitz his touches? Epic fail on play designs and offense game planning.

    Easy to blame the coaches
But the players lack of execution is horribly obvious as well. Good question about Floyd.. why hasn't he risen above Roberts by now?? Because his work ethic and commitment to the game are lacking. When a teammate, a future HOF WR calls out your 1st round pick in OTAs and that player still doesnt come with game, how can you play him??

    trade Fitz
Trade Fitz and allow him to get to his destiny: hall of fame.. The Cards are robbing him of the hall through their inept planning and non-commitment of the ownership to building a winner. Fitz deserves better than the Bidwells and their commitment to getting richer.
