Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said the move to replace John Skelton with Ryan Lindley Sunday should not have come as much of a surprise.

After all, it was part of the idea that changes would be made if the coach deemed them necessary.

"In looking at where we were, as a team, and we said this going into the bye week that we were going to play guys in spots that we thought gave us a chance to win, and that's what we did," Whisenhunt said at his Monday press conference in Tempe. "We wanted to see if [Lindley] would give us a chance to make some of those plays because we had missed some plays earlier in the game."

Whisenhunt was particularly miffed at Skelton's inability to hit a wide-open Larry Fitzgerald for what would have been a touchdown late in the first quarter. The Cardinals ended up settling for a field goal, and the four-point swing proved to be the difference in the game.

The sixth-round pick out of San Diego State handled himself well Sunday, according to Whisenhunt, even though his stats (9-of-20 for 64 yards) were not exactly impressive.

"He did a nice job I thought in a lot of areas," he said, "managing the game, handling the noise, doing some of the things that you need to do with protection.

"He looked comfortable in the pocket, made some good throws."

Good enough to keep the job? Not exactly.

Whisenhunt said Kevin Kolb is expected to practice some this week, but how much he does depends "on how he handles it physically." And with him nearing a return and Skelton still around, the coach said there is no need to proclaim anyone --- including Lindley --- the starter as his team prepares for the St. Louis Rams.

"We've got to sit down as a staff and look at what we're trying to get done and make that evaluation," Whisenhunt said, adding that he just finished watching film from Sunday's game.

"We're going to do what we think gives us the best chance to win going forward, and that's not something that we have to make the decision right now."

    im sick of it
Obviously the issue is about the offense not progressing considering whiz is a offensive minded coach. The most suspect position on the team is QB. Its been proven that there is no coach on the team (including Whiz) that can progress our QBs (the most important position on the team). Kolb? Hes kinda good. But we'll never see him play 16 games a season. O Line? Its the 2nd biggest problem this team has (not QB cuz a good one can mask o line woes (see Kurt Warner)) but we've seen them improve the last 2 weeks in the run game. The problem (again) is the QB. We need a coach who specializes in QBs.

I said this during training camp, Lindley throws the best deep ball out of all QB's on this team. His arm is above average overall. The main reason is that his touch is peerless on this team. He nearly hit two deep balls in the game, both off the receiver's finger tips. The offense has no deep threat what-so-ever, teams figured this out immediately after Kolb went down. They play two safety's high and force 5-7 yard throws

    The Rams made the blueprint
for beating this sorry O line silly. Look for a repeat of that performance. I predicted 12 losses in a row during that game when we were only down 7 points. That's how important I think their blueprint was at pointing out what I already knew coming into the season. I was shocked that the OL held up in the first 4 games. We've seen now that those teams just hadn't figured out the blueprint. Call me the first to jump off the bandwagon or call me the first to have a clue. Whiz obviously doesn't still trying to blame his late round QB selections.

    This is only for now
Once Kolb is back he will be the starter. It's the backup competition that is unknown. I would rather have Lindley because Skelton is already a known failure. Give the rookie a chance to see what he can do.

    LockerRoom
What do you think the LockerRoom feel is like not having any idea which quarterback is going to start. I'm sorry to say but I like Rex Ryan's approach to sticking with his QB. Ken pick one and stick with it. If you move on to the next one you cannot go back. You are divinging the lockerroom, by not having any consistency. You have to mold the offense based on QB, like Kurt Warner once said. I see leaders on D what about the offense? It starts with the coach

    Cardinals
Perhaps the whole Cardinals team with the coach need to attend the play of Vince Lombardi held at The Hemberger Theatre in downtown Phoenix. Maybe our team just needs a bit of inspiration and reminder that failure is not exceptional for a team that is more than capable of winning.

    Cardinals
That was a very disappointing game, six turnovers in one game. For every action there is a reaction and this was definitely a reaction of lack of dedication, strategy and desire of doing the hard work that leads to victory. Everyone wants to win, sadly many lose the inspiration to put in the work and focus needed to be prepared.

    Whiz, Stubborness, Keeping it Real
Lindley clearly had a poor day for your average NFL quarterback but he's a rookie thrown into the game with two rookie OT's. And maybe Whiz told Lindley, privately, that he stunk it up but do you really think he's going to say that about a rookie QB in his first regular season NFL action? Really??
