Coach Whisenhunt knows Fitz is something special

Dec 12, 2011, 11:25 PM | Updated: 11:46 pm

It was just another day in the office for Larry Fitzgerald
Sunday against the 49ers. His seven catches for 149 yards
pushed him over the 1,000 yard mark for sixth time in his
career, a new franchise record.

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt knows with Fitz, it’s the
intangibles that make him special.

“You’re almost running out of things to say about Larry
because of what he brings to the table. Every day, every
single day he comes to work and works his tail off to try
to get better. And you’re talking about one of the best
players in the league. You know it’s a mentality, an
unselfishness that you see with Larry.”

Each season the numbers and stats are consistently there
for Fitz. His 149 yard performance Sunday also marked his
30th career 100-yard game, which extends his franchise
record.

Coach Whisenhunt knows Fitz is unselfish, but he’s also a
competitor and wants to win.

“You know it burns in Larry to get the ball. He wants the
ball. I can’t tell you how many times during a game he’ll
come and tell me he was open, he’s got this or he’s
working on this. By and large he makes them work whether
he’s open or not. That’s why Larry works so hard. It is
always great when you see Larry have one of those kinds of
days that he did [Sunday] because generally when he does,
we do pretty good as a team too.”

Oh yeah…Fitz also had a killer block on Early Doucet’s
touchdown and saved a touchdown by making a tackle after
an interception late in the game. Just another day in the
office for the future Hall-of-Famer.
