UNC’s Roy Williams tries to help bullied student get through tough time

Eleven-year-old Drew Summerlin has Asperger’s, and was being bullied in school.
It was so bad, in fact, that a group of boys at his school attacked him, leaving him with a concussion that forced him to miss school for a few days.
As noted by Yahoo! Sports, Summerlin is a big North Carolina basketball fan.
His favorite team stepped up.
Upon learning of what happened, UNC coach Roy Williams sent Summerlin an autographed team picture along with a letter encouraging him to remain strong.
“I’m so sorry and upset with what you have been going through,” the letter from Williams read. “Someday those kids will realize how terribly they acted and will be ashamed.
“Drew, I want you to know that I am so proud for how you have handled things and know you are a kind person and anyone would be lucky to be your friend. Although life is not always easy, don’t ever give up and continue to be the person that you are.”
The gesture lifted Drew’s spirits considerably.
“Oh my goodness, he was so excited,” his mother Jaime Summerlin said. “He kept saying, ‘Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?’ It was really cute. We’re trying to take a negative thing that happened in our son’s life and turn it into a positive. The Tar Heels definitely helped with that.”
