One of the NFL’s lowest-paid players is also one of the most generous.
Oakland Raiders tackle Menelik Watson gave away his Week 16 paycheck to the family of 4-year-old Ava Urrea. Watson met Urrea, who has a heart condition, when she attended a Raiders practice through the Glazer’s Touchdown Dreams program.
CBS Sports NFL writer Josh Katzowitz said Watson’s 2014 base salary is $622,948, meaning Watson, a second-year pro out of Florida State, gave over $36,000 to the Urrea family.
“Considering players are paid only during the football season, that was quite a gesture,” Katzowitz wrote.
