The UFC’s first trip to Maine just got a whole lot more interesting.
On Wednesday, the Bangor Daily News announced a light heavyweight matchup between Ryan Bader (17-4) and Ovince St. Preux (16-5) will serve as UFC Fight Night 47’s main event in August.
Both men had expressed interest in facing each other following their victories at UFC 174 last week and it looks like they got their wish.
Bader, currently the ninth-ranked light heavyweight according to the official Power MMA rankings, is coming off an dominant decision victory over Rafael ‘Feijao’ Cavalcante. Prior to this win, Bader came out on top against Anthony Perosh at UFC last December. In a bout as one-sided as a fight can be, Bader controlled 12 minutes of the contest while landing 156 strikes including 70 significant strikes. To put those numbers into perspective, Perosh controlled a grand total of 19 seconds while landing a total of 11 strikes.
St. Preux, currently unranked, is coming off a second-round submission victory over Bader’s teammate Ryan Jimmo. Prior to this win, OSP picked up stoppage victories of Nikita Kyrlov, Cody Donovan and Gian Villante. His four straight wins under UFC banner trail only UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones for longest in the division.
UFC Fight Night 47 is set to take place on Aug. 16 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine, with the main card scheduled to air on Fox Sports 1. A middleweight matchup between Tim Boetsch and Hawaiian fighter Brad Tavarez as well as a heavyweight matchup between Shawn Jordan and Jack May have been announced for the night’s main card. A headline fight has yet to be announced.
Here’s how the rest of the card is shaping up:
- Ryan Bader vs. Ovince St. Preux
- Tim Boetsch vs. Brad Tavares
- Shawn Jordan vs. Jack May
- Sam Alvey vs. Tom Watson
