Suns, Trail Blazers opine about NBA realignment following surprising starts

Dec 4, 2013, 9:06 PM | Updated: Dec 5, 2013, 12:07 am

The Portland Trail Blazers are off to a surprising 15-3 start and are tied atop the Western Conference standings with the San Antonio Spurs.

Outside of two losses at US Airways Center, Terry Stotts’ squad has been nearly unbeatable, having already taken down the likes of the Chicago Bulls, Golden State Warriors, Indiana Pacers and Spurs.

With that said, given how deep the Western Conference is in 2013-14, the No. 1 spot might not be theirs for long with six teams just three games behind.

In the Eastern Conference, it’s a much different story. Outside of the Miami Heat and Pacers, not one team has a record above .500.

That got the Blazers thinking: What if NBA realignment was possible during the middle of the season?

Although it’s easy to assume that the friend is in fact the Trail Blazers, the local team — the Phoenix Suns (9-9) — seems to believe it’s the one being outed.

No word yet on whether the NBA is considering realignment any time soon. But if it happens, odds are that neither the Suns nor the Trail Blazers, who both play in two of the westernmost cities in the league, would be considered.
