Ohio State player’s grumbling tweet makes Ole Miss textbook

Oct 23, 2013, 5:19 AM | Updated: 7:40 am

Scholarships. How could they possibly be for the purpose of school? Cardale Jones wouldn’t know.

A little over a year ago, Jones, the backup quarterback at Ohio State, tweeted:

“Why should we have to go to class if we came to play FOOTBALL, we ain’t come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS”

Of course, the irony then was just marvelous. Comma splices, the absence of punctuation, nonstandard contractions — Jones’ tweet was exhibit A in why classes weren’t, in fact, pointless. At least Ohio State had no Pryor scandals involving student-athlete privileges.

Now, despite its adamant resistance, the infamous tweet has found its way to class, after all.

Ole Miss is using the misstep as a lesson in social media responsibility in a class for freshmen which, according to Yahoo!, is “designed to help you, as first-year students, make a positive transition from high school to college, develop a better understanding of the learning process, enhance your academic skills, acquire essential life skills to ensure your success and to begin your exploration of the career and major that are best for you.”

Maybe you didn’t get your scholarship to ‘play SCHOOL,’ Cardale, but your tweet is doing just that. You Rebel, you.
