The latest football coaching opening in the East Valley is at Mesa High where the dean of Mesa district coaches, Kelley Moore, stepped down late last week after seven seasons.

The East Valley Tribune reported Moore's decision to resign on Monday. Moore compiled a 32-44 record in seven seasons at Mesa. The Jackrabbits were 3-7 this season.  Moore's best year was an 8-6 campaign in 2009 that ended with a state runner-up trophy for Mesa after a second-half surge by the Jackrabbits. That appearance is the only title game appearance for a Mesa school since 2006. Moore said still has the itch to coach either as a head coach or assistant, but felt it was time to move on.

The other head coaching openings at present in the East Valley are at Poston Butte and Corona del Sol. Mike De La Torre resigned at season's end at Poston Butte to pursue an administrative position. Corona has begun a search after deciding to open that position up. Assistant Tim Kelly took over at midseason after Tom Joseph was let go.

Poston Butte's sister school, Florence, took off the interim tag from veteran coach Bill McKane and officially made him its new coach for next season. McKane took over for his son, Steve, after Steve McKane passed away from a heart attack in October.
