State badminton quarterfinalists set in singles and doubles

Seven of the eight top-seeded singles players and six of the eight top-seeded  doubles players advanced Friday to the quarterfinals of the state badminton tournament at Glendale's Independence High School.

Quarterfinal action begins Saturday (Oct. 19) at 10 a.m. for both singles and doubles. Semifinals follow at 11:30 a.m. and the title matches are set for 1  p.m. All matches are at Independence High.

Here are the matchups for Saturday's quarterfinals:

SINGLES: No. 1 Kiyoko Hashimoto, Mtn. Pointe vs. No. 8  Emily Jing, Desert Vista; No. 4 Karen Guo, Desert Vista vs. No. 5 Areta Buness, Xavier; No. 3 Jenna Scheeland, Chandler vs. unseeded Amanda Dunn, Horizon; No. 2 Vaishnavi Koka, Mtn. Pointe vs. No. 7 Amitty Carillo, Independence.

DOUBLES: No. 1 Tiffany Pariva-Drishti Panse, Hamilton vs. No. 8  Baani Khurana-Mallory Belknap, Xavier; unseeded Alexis Maneth-Sierra Adams, Ironwood vs. unseeded Lisa Chavez-Larae Keso, Mnt. Pointe; No. 3 Rachel Price-Valerie Rozon, Mtn. Ridge vs. unseeded Jamilia Cosay-Sami Evans, Sandra Day O'Connor; No. 2 Kirielle Singarajah-Teal Weaver, Xavier vs. No. 7 Chloe Lewis-Amber Reicks, Shadow Mountain.
