Phoenix Mountain Pointe and Tucson Salpointe were selected to represent Arizona in the 8th annual Sollenberger Football Classic.

The teams will travel to Las Vegas in August to play two of Nevada’s better programs, Bishop Gorman and Liberty. It’s only the second time that the Sollenberger Classic, which pits some of the top teams from Arizona and Nevada, will be held outside of Arizona.

The game honors the late Barry Sollenberger, the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s former historian. The football games in August will be held at Bishop Gorman, Nevada’s Division I defending champ.

On Aug. 23, Bishop Gorman will play Arizona’s D-I 2012-13 state runner-up Mountain Pointe at 7 p.m. The following day, Salpointe, a Division II 2012-13 state semifinalist, will face off against Liberty, the D-I runner-up last season in Nevada.
