Spring baseball tournaments wrap up March 14 in Gilbert

Basha ran its recordto 3-0 in the Mesquite-Gilbert Baseball Invitational on Wednesday by blanking Mesa Mountain View, 5-0, at Mesquite High School.
Basha right-hander Austin Casillas tossed a one-hitter over six innings to earn the victory. Casillas, a senior, took a no-hitter to the sixth, but saw it spoiled by a clean single to center by Mountain View's Bryce Bailey lealding off the inning. James Ziegler pitched a perfect seventh to finish the gem. Ziegler was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI. Basha's other three runs were driven in by third baseman Cameron Shanks. Shanks ripped a two-run homer in the second and singled in another in the sixth off Mountain View starter Conner Wise.
In other tournament games on Wednesday: Red Mountain shut out Westview, 9-0; Gilbert topped Westview, 18-3; McClintock dumped Skyline, 12-2, Red Mountain beat Queen Creek, 9-4; Desert Vista nipped Mesquite, 9-8 in 10 innings. Desert Vista and McClintock squared off in a late game Wednesday night at Mesquite.
Only two teams remain unbeaten -- Gilbert (4-0) and Basha. Gilbert plays Mountain View on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at Gilbert HS and Basha plays twice - 9:30 a.m. vs. Skyline at Gilbert HS and 3:30 p.m. vs. Desert Vista at Mesquite HS.
HIGHLAND TRIPLE PLAY CLASSIC
Highland and Perry battled for a spot in the tournament championship game late Wednesday night with Perry prevailing, 7-2. Perry finished 4-0 while Highland dropped to 2-2 in the tournament. In other tournament games on Wednesday: St. Mary's (4-0 in tournament) locked up its berth in the title game by topping Mesa High, 7-1; Perry defeated Apache Junction, 21-2 and Dobson trimmed Westwood, 9-8, in 10 innings.
The schedule for Thursday's (March 14) final day of games, all at Highland High: 9 a.m. -- Highland vs. Apache Junction; Noon - Highland vs. Westwood; 3 p.m. - Dobson vs. Mesa; 6 p.m. -- Perry vs. St. Mary's (championship game).
GAME ON GERMANN INVITATIONAL
Campo Verde completed play in Pool A unbeaten at 4-0 with a 10-0 win over South Mountain. Campo Verde meets Valley Vista, the Pool B top-seed, Thursday night (March 14) at 7 p.m. for the tournament title. The third-place game also takes place Thursday with Higley taking on Casa Grande at 4 p.m. In other tournament games Wednesday: Higley beat Maricopa, 7-5; Casa Grande defeated Valley Christian, 11-4 and Valley Vista won twice to advance to the title game, knocking off Agua Fria, 11-9 and North, 9-1.
